One of the distinguishing traits exhibited by Joseph was the ability to let go of offences. In his journey to fulfilling God’s purpose for his life, he suffered harassment, false accusation and injustice. His brothers envied and maltreated him; Potiphar’s wife laid false accusation on him while Potiphar failed to hear him out and put him behind bars on account of false accusation of sexual harassment of his wife.
However, contrary to human expectation, when Joseph took on the reins of leadership in Egypt, he grew THICK SKIN and failed to give his enemies the taste of their own medicine. He didn't allow his authority to get a better of him. And as sweet as revenge could have been to Joseph, he chose not to get on power trip, which could have spawned him to trample upon his adversaries.
It is also interesting to note that Joseph thrust aside his revenge card and TOOK THE HIGH ROAD with his accusers. He did what was morally right and dignifying in the circumstance and in the sight of God. Instead of making his brothers to pay through their nose for their evil act, by taking them as slaves in Egypt, he set a table before them and made them comfortable.
The Lord God vindicated Job because he chose to be vindictive; not allowing the false accusation of his friends to get in the way of God’s intervention in his life. Instead of taking revenge upon his friends, Job put his TRUST in the Lord to vindicate and liberate him from all his troubles. Are you torn between taking revenge and allowing offences to slide? Ask the Lord to help you to forgive and not to grieve over offences.
