I don't mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. – Phil 3:12 (NLT)
Yesterday’s success can become a barrier to tomorrow’s success if you allow it to get in the way. When you become overly hooked to the glory of yesterday’s success without looking forward to better days, you will be preoccupied with living in the past. You shouldn’t lose sight of the fact that you can accomplish much more than you could imagine in the days ahead. Therefore, you shouldn’t allow yesterday’s success to give you the passport to rest on your laurels. The Bible says that, “The path of the righteous is like the shining light that shines more and more until the perfect day” (Prov. 4:18). You need to open up your mind to new opportunities, successes and accomplishments that await you down the road. Therefore, you shouldn’t make the current status of your accomplishments your final bus-stop lest you get stuck in a rut.
Regardless of what your present achievements are, you should be aspiring to achieve more because much has been endowed upon you. The grace of God upon your life makes it feasible for you to outshine your yesterday’s performance. You can experience transition from one level of glory to another if you keep on track and ignore every enticement to get your sidetracked. For you to maximize God’s grace upon your life, you must entirely and continuously launch yourself to what gives you the maximum return. As you are advancing in years, you should be downloading God’s grace upon your life to impact generations and not to download it to enrich the grave.
Apostle Paul saw the earnest need to get over his accomplishments. He chose to press towards the finishing line. Before his demise, he knew that the time wasn’t ripe for him to lay his pursuit to rest. So he kept on advancing and abounding in the work of the Lord in spite of his many missionary accomplishments. The question is how occupied are you in your quest to reach the finishing line? Yesterday’s accomplishment is something to shout about but not worth beclouding your sight of a much more glorious tomorrow. So, it isn’t the time to hit the brakes. Go ahead, break more grounds and you will see your trophies and crowns multiplied for an experience of overwhelming joy. May you not see the reason to be at rest while there are many grounds to cover for you to maximize your potential, in Jesus name.
