LIVING IN THE PRESENT

The LORD said to Samuel, "How long will you mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him as king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and be on your way; I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem. I have chosen one of his sons to be king." – I Samuel 16:1

Many people expend large chunk of their time recycling a junkyard of regrets when they should be forward looking to jump at fresh opportunities. You shouldn’t be preoccupied with turning your past failures over in your mind. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be able to train your sights on new opportunities. Therefore, you must learn to move on. People that make their heart the repository of negative thinking and guilt end up staying on the sideline. They never seem to get into the swing of things and bring value to the table.

It is not impossible that you may have to square up to daunting challenges that will take a lot out of you and leave you high and dry. Inasmuch as you are alive, you should understand that every cloud has a silver lining. Hence, it’s profitable to hope against hope and not to throw your hands up in despair. With God on your side, you have a bright tomorrow and with Him you will be able to live up to your dreams. It is not in your best interest to live in the past. Living in the past detaches you from the glorious future ahead of you. So you need to move on and keep an eye out for new opportunities that will turn the tide in your favour.

Prophet Samuel couldn’t help weeping over the Lord’s rejection of King Saul. He was solemnly sorrowful over the short-lived reign of King Saul over the Israelites. Since the king chose to be a people-pleaser and couldn’t keep to divine instructions, the Lord chose to replace him. Samuel wasn’t in the loop that God had already moved on. God found a man after His heart (David) to be made king over Israel. Because the Lord didn’t want to allow for any delay, He quizzed Samuel on how long he would continue to sorrow over Saul and went further to unveil His plan to set up a new king. Instead of weeping over your Saul, focus on your David (the new king). There is a new throne before you. There are new opportunities going begging before you. Reach out for them and stop living in the past. May your hands hold lay hold of new opportunities, which God has set before you as you begin to live in the present in Jesus name.
