WHETTING YOUR SPIRITUAL APPETITE

When your words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my heart's delight, for I bear your name, LORD God Almighty. – Jer. 15:16

When God gives a man a foretaste of His blessings, it’s enough to stir him to want for more. In and of itself, God’s blessing does not endanger the peace of His people unlike ill-gotten wealth which makes those possessed of it to lose their presence of mind and train of thought. Because many people are obsessed with the passion to gratify their flesh and satisfy their taste for inordinate affection, they have no hunger for the things of God. If you are preoccupied with materialism and you prize it over and above the pursuit of divine refreshing that comes from the presence of the Lord, you will be shortchanging yourself of the foretaste of heaven.

You need to understand that the moment your appetite for pleasure takes precedence over your hunger for God, you are actually widening the gap between you and your Creator. All the devil needs is an inch and will of course take a mile to make his victims to be visually impaired to the things that pertains to God and His kingdom. It is out of character for a child of God to lose his appetite for the word of God. If you choose to zero in on inordinate pleasure, which pulls down your fervency and defiles your identity, then, it will be beneficial if you would give thought to having to do a spiritual check-up. This will certainly help you to realign yourself before you get your mind stuffed with heresies and unscriptural diet.

Bear in mind that your ability to fight and prevail over the devil hinges on your appetite for the word of God. It is said that an empty sack cannot stand straight. This implies that anyone who is not fortified with the enabling power and life that flow from the word of God is susceptible to deception and manipulative schemes of the devil. However, if the hunger for God’s presence and His word whets your appetite, you will keep building the spiritual muscle to wrestle against every opposing power whose authority is not endorsed by heaven. The discovery of God’s word by Jeremiah filled him with great joy. It whetted his appetite so much that he earnestly desired to feast on God’s word. May your hunger for God and His word not die a natural death in your life in Jesus name.
