For Ezra had prepared and set his heart to seek the Law of the Lord [to inquire for it and of it, to require and yearn for it], and to do and teach in Israel its statutes and its ordinances. -  Ezra 7:10
Every influential leader appreciates the need to develop his leadership competencies in order to remain valuable. A leader who does not add value has nothing to offer within his leadership space. Hence, for leaders to remain valued, they must keep adding value and inspiring confidence in others to add value. However, a leader who does not place a high premium on personal development will not pass as a personality of influence. You cannot build a high performance team with left overs and except them to go over and above the ordinary.
Hence, for leaders to gallop into the influential space within which they make positive impact, they must embrace self-development.  The charge Moses gave to Joshua requires him to embrace the book of the Law. The key to a successful and impactful leadership for Joshua hinges on his willingness to whet his spiritual appetite with the book of the Law, which empowers with the insight and foresight to make a difference.
Similarly,  the life of Ezra, the renowned teacher of the Law of the Lord, portrays a leader who saw the need to bridge the knowledge gap of the Israelites. In view of this,  Ezra threw himself into the task of building a robust knowledge base, to enable him to rightly divide and give sense to the word of the Lord. This explains why leaders must continuously develop the hunger for knowledge. Apostle Paul wanted to know more about the Lord. Moses wanted to see His glory. This poses the question: Do you have a real thirst for God with keen interest for knowledge? As you hunger for knowledge and sound wisdom, may you continually soar to the height of significance and influence with the capacity to impact your world in Jesus name. Happy June 2016
