"I'm going out to fish," Simon Peter told them, and they said, "We'll go with you." So they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing. – John 21:3
The pursuit of a goal which has nothing to add to the bottom line locks one within the vicious circle of confusion and wastage of time and destiny. When you jump on the bandwagon without getting a handle of your strength and competences, you will end up pursuing an ambition that is a far cry from what you have the energy for. That is why fruitlessness is often the offshoot of a life without a clear sense of purpose and direction. The right energy into the wrong course of action is like erecting an edifice on a sinking sand. Until you channel your effort in the right direction, based on a clear sense of purpose, you will find yourself playing in the league where your energy keep going down the tubes.
Peter had what it takes to be a leader of great impact. He was groomed by the Lord to be a fisher of men. Following the departure of the Lord, he deviated from God’s master plan for his life. Down the road, his efforts didn’t add up as a professional fisher man. As long as he put the goal of fishing for men on the back burner, all his efforts towards his professional fishing occupation didn’t come to fruition. Hence, for you to excel in your pursuits, it is essential that you identify THE PURSUIT that gives you the maximum return. On top of this, it is equally essential not to get on the bandwagon. Those who expressed their interest to join Peter to go a fishing could only draw a blank and returned empty.
When Peter realized that his effort to go a fishing yielded no result, he had a rethink of God’s mandate for his life. When the Master re-appeared to him, He helped him to recall to mind the big picture of the future He had destined for him. This means that in the face of distraction and doubt, you need to keep your eye on the ball while you pursue God’s plan for your life. This speaks to the fact that it is not enough to identify God’s purpose your life without sticking to His plan. All Peter needed to do was to stick to God’s master plan, for him to emerge a global evangelist. Finally, sticking to God’s plan helps you to build your competence and sharpen your skills so you could attain maximum impact in your endeavor. As you run purposefully with a sense of direction towards the attainment of God’s plan for your life, may your effort translate to immense accomplishment in Jesus name.
