THE VIRTUES OF CONTENTMENT

And it is, indeed, a source of immense profit, for godliness accompanied with contentment is great and abundant gain – I Tim. 6:6

Living a life of contentment is a proof that you have conquered covetousness and greed. When you are contented with what you have, it is a sign of your ability to keep your body under subjection and from every desire that may ruin your destiny.

The reason why the sorrows of many folks are multiplied is because they are not contented with what they have. Solomon went the extra mile to multiply wives and concubines because he wasn’t able to keep his eyes under subjection. In the end, his inordinate affections turned his heart from the Lord.

Contentment with godliness is a kingdom way of living a profitable life unto God. A man who is contented doesn’t steal from his neighbour to fill up the vacuum in his life or to discount his state of insufficiency. Contentment with godliness enables a believer to:

1. Embrace the virtue of appreciation and gratitude to God. It is easy to mirror God as wicked and unfair when you are not contended with what you have. It takes a man who is contented to appreciate God for small mercies while expecting the outpour of the manifold grace and showers of God’s blessings

2. Avoid destructive addiction. Discontentment moves a man out of the domain of God in pursuit of destructive pleasure at the expense of God’s grace, that is provided to enable him endure his light affliction. Gehazi ruined his destiny because he gasped for treasure at the expense of godliness

3. Gain divine acceptance and qualification for a life of multiplication. Apostle Paul learnt to be contented with what he had. And God didn’t fail to extend His generosity to him, according to His riches in glory. Until contentment becomes a virtue in your life, you will never qualify for the divine outpour of God’s manifold blessings

A life of contentment combined with godliness is a great gain. May the Lord give you a heart that will not run in pursuit of destructive pleasure at the expense of God’s plan for your life in Jesus name.
