THE BURDEN, BREAD AND BUTTER OF CHRISTIANITY

The kingdom of God is not meat and drink but righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Ghost – Romans 14:17

Righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Ghost together with the suffering for Christ are principal ingredients that lend credence to your identity as a Christian. They cannot be squashed in defining who a true child of God is. You cannot detach a life of righteousness, joy and peace in the Holy Ghost from a life that is prepared to suffer for Christ. Many Christians today have a myopic understanding and misconception of Christianity. They equate Christianity to a life of meat and drink; a life of merriment excluding commitment to the cause of Christ and a life of liberty without considering whether their liberty stimulates others to adopt a lifestyle of ungodliness, through their choices.

The burden of Christianity could be explained as the readiness of a Christian to suffer for Christ. It speaks to a believer’s readiness to carry his or her cross daily and follow the Lord. It could also be referred to as the burden of the Lord upon a life – when a believer is pressed in the spirit to deliver the mandate of an urgent divine assignment. Instead of embracing the burden of the Lord, many Christians are rather preoccupied with the pursuit for materialism, ungodly fashion and inordinate affections.

We cannot keep mute about the impact of the Bread of Life for the daily sustenance of the righteous. It is irrefutable that bread is the staff of life. So the body of Jesus is the spiritual bread which every Christian must partake of for daily vitality, strength and experience of abundance of life. When eat of the body of Jesus, you are actually trading your weakness for His strength. This will keep you on track and constantly on the move just as Elijah was fed with bread from heaven, which fortified him with strength to keep abounding in the good work of the Lord.

A Christian who doesn’t experience the daily greasing and refreshing of the Holy Ghost will never have a taste of heaven. What makes a genuine child of God to operate in the supernatural and perform exploits is the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost is akin to the butter or the divine grease that makes a Christian to experience the fullness of the riches and virtues of Christ. Without the Holy Spirit, there will never be the power to live a righteous life and experience the joy and peace of the kingdom of God. Just as butter on a slice of bread gives a nice and appealing taste, much more the Holy Ghost gives you the divine taste of the bliss of heaven. Hence, I pray the Lord makes you a Christian who rejoices as a partaker of the suffering of Christ while also enjoying the daily sustenance and refreshing of the Holy Ghost, to enable you attain to a mature Christian in the Lord, in Jesus name.
