And when he had disarmed the rulers and the authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in the cross. Col 2:15
Jesus took the final battle against the devil to the Cross upon which He disarmed him. His death on the Cross puts a divine seal of accomplishment on His mission to bring salvation to mankind. When Jesus said, “It is finished”, that was mission accomplished. It was the beginning of the end for every hold of the devil upon the sons of men when Jesus was raised on the Cross. Any man who has been held hostage by the devil is delivered whenever he pins his faith on the Cross upon which Jesus died. Therefore, the death of Jesus opens the gateway of eternal life to everyone who believes in Him.
Had Jesus not engaged the devil in the final conflict that reduced the devil to defeat, we would have been afflicted till kingdom come and left high and dry without a Redeemer. And by the death of Jesus, we were snatched from the jaws of death. The Saviour’s battle against the devil paved way for the divine resettlement of our soul from the captivity of the devil and ushered in for us the divine settlement and nourishment of everything that pertains to live and godliness.
The final conflict between Christ and the death wasn’t a showmanship and but a championship which announced Jesus as the Winner Man. He got the victory so could be liberated from strongholds. If you can pin your faith on Jesus and take a leap of faith to lay your worries, fears and weights of sin at the Cross, you will never know defeat anymore. The devil will no longer be able to shortchange you anymore. But if you keep a distance from the Cross, the devil will thrust you into despair and depression. Therefore, open the door of your heart for Jesus to settle you and give you a lasting victory that will close the door of your defeat, shame and humiliation by the devil.
