DISCOVERY OF PURPOSE: THE KEY TO A FOCUSED LIFE

He said, I am the voice of one crying aloud in the wilderness [the voice of one shouting in the desert], Prepare the way of the Lord [level, straighten out, the path of the Lord], as the prophet Isaiah said. - John 1:23

Regardless of your competences, skills and abilities, you cannot be everything to everybody and meet the needs of everybody. Such competence only resides in God. You will assume the position of the Most High the day you begin to proffer solutions to all the diverse problems that stare people in the face. This speaks to why God has endowed you with special skills and abilities within a specific human endeavour. Any attempt to become a jack of trades may get you running around in circles. Hence, you need to discover your purpose so you could keep your eyes on the ball.

The discovery of purpose helps you to appropriate your talents, skills and inner abilities judiciously. People that deliver top shelf result in life are usually people that stay put in their strength zone. A born lawyer will struggle along under assuming the position of a farmer. This will amount to misappropriation of talent, time and destiny. People who call it quits in life usually come under the category of folks that go through life without being able to lay a finger on their mission in life. Consequently, when purpose is not discovered and prioritized, a man’s destiny will of course go down the drain.

John the Baptist knew the divine mission behind his birth. He understood that he was merely the forerunner of the Lord; a voice to prepare the way of the Lord. Hence, he didn’t deem it fit to jostle with the Lord Jesus for being regarded as the Messiah. The understanding he had made him to stick at the divine mandate of preaching repentance and baptizing those converted through his message. This illustrates that John the Baptist didn’t float through life. He had a divine mandate and ran with it. If you were to consider your life in retrospect, can you say that you had stayed focused? If yes, you can increase your focus and reap the harvest of overflowing joy. If not, you can set the records straight. Go back to the drawing board, wipe the slate clean and prepare to run with God’s plan for your life. May you find unlimited joy as you begin to live out God’s purpose for your life in Jesus name.
