So we built the wall, and all of it was joined together to half its height, for the people had a heart and mind to work – Nehemiah 4:6
Nothing gets done when someone does not have the mind to work. It is said that “When there is a will, there is a way.” However, an unwilling heart shirks his duties and often prefers to go into the same old song and dance for falling down on the job. When someone’s work output does not make the grade on many occasions, it could be an indication that his drive to work has been impaired and is probably no longer cranked up to add value. But a mind that is fired with expectations and passion to work, goes beyond and above expectation to deliver top notch result.
The dream team that rubbed shoulders with Nehemiah in rebuilding the broken walls and burnt gates of Jerusalem had the mind to work. In the face of severe opposition and schemes to put the brakes on their efforts, they rather kept on pegging away at the task of getting the project out of the way without hanging fire. They were purpose driven and fuelled with energy to keep on track. Therefore, it is not out of place to say that nothing is impossible to him who is dead set and poised to move or climb mountains.
Having the mind to work earns you a golden reputation and ranks you among resourceful personality. It gets you to become the talk of your workplace. On the other hand, loafers are reputed to be unproductive and wasteful. They piddle away their time and allow their duties to slide. They expect others to stick their neck out for them while they prefer to pile the work on them. You need to bear in mind that there is no work or device under the grave. Don’t overemphasize tomorrow while you can make today a masterpiece. Therefore, I pray the Lord stir your heart to work with a purposeful and passionate heart and turn in top notch results in Jesus name.
